hazy autumn, you trickster//Inside The Weather Is Cool

Four Tet - Love Cry
so happy to hear this scot back in action. i wasn't a big fan of his collaboration with burial, which produced two tracks of dark, drawn out electronica think-pieces that felt like unpolished jams rather than works of attention care that X mr/ tet's back catalogue. i can feel carpet fur crawling up my socks, rubbing against my skin and leaving marks to remind me of dirty nights on the basement floor. its all about the groove, and the steady beat keeps your head moving through the intermittent explosions of sampled vocals. one for the wax heads, one for the headphones, one for the jazz fiends and nu-sex fiends. the ending is so quintessential four tet i had a wide grin on first listen.

Boards of Canada - Seven Forty Seven
another downbeat electronica giant released new material, and i am so happy to be a fan of this genre. boc are the kings of their own wild, the fuzz as jesters and the beats as the court in which they dance a dusty slowdance with their queen, canadian tv show samples. insects and hazlenuts, crunchy leaves and a bubbly sneeze, two skips over acid puddles and three hits over winter snuggles. those windows aren't frosted, they're alive; your hot chocolate isn't dripping, it's escaping; this track ain't growing, it's evolved.

Tamma's Music Box - Wasn't Born To Follow
a Byrds cover. the voice haunts my thoughts, and the layers of subtlety give me audiophile boners. everything about this track is perfect. please download and give it at least three spins, and get lost in the woods of this beautiful piece by a relatively unknown with a fancy looking website.

if it's not enough
to return inside and expect nothing more
than the warmth of a mother's hug,
the gruff of a father's grin,
and the practiced gestures from friends old,
their eyes thicker but as welcoming as before,

to make you smile and thankful, still,
for twenty years luck and a few more
in the cards
(fingers crossed)

then i think it best
you settle for less.
